Our Safetynet
TW: this project contains sexual assault
Sexual Assault is a huge issue. An issue we can't ignore. This is why I came up with my book: "Our Safetynet". This enables people to share their story, safely.
April is known as #SexualAssaultAwerenessMonth, which I fully and completely support. Research showed that people don't really believe victims, survivors, people, who have their experiences with this matter. They get ignored. Their story gets ignored. They can't speak up, because people aren't willing to listen. As a result: people don't feel safe enough to share their story. Nor do they feel the space to do so. Sexual Assault is a huge issue. An issue we can't ignore. This is why I came up with my book: "Our Safetynet". This enables people to share their story, safely. I interview and take photographs of them in order to complete my book.
"Safety" can be hugely interpreted. People can share their story, in their own words. Within their own boundaries. I also visit them, go to the place they feel most safe to share their story. Their own, real name doesn't have to be used if they prefer to be anonymous. Additionally, they don't have to be photographed if they prefer not to. The photograph will be replaced with an illustration in this case. And, very importantly: they have the final say wether the edited version of their story + the photograph(s)/illustration(s) get published or not.
