My inspirations

Entering any creative process, always starts with having an idea you have visualized inside your head. An idea you see around you. My main inspirations come from people around me and social media. In this blog I tell you who and what inspire me and my work.

I believe everyone is creative and any job requires creativity. With any problems coming your way, you sometimes need to think of a solution fast. Or thinking of a short-term solution and a long-term one. Whatever the case is, any solution comes from a creative thought/idea. Those ideas sometimes are inspired by our surroundings, the people and projects we look up to and follow along. I’ll share my inspirations.

Design

Blaos Studio is founded by a friend of mine, Kiana. I’ve worked with her during our internship we did together at NJR - Bold. Her creativity, ability to capture the most beautiful pictures and her power of coming up with the most creative designs, inspired me every day. In fact, as part of my creative process, I more often than not looked her up to get inspired by her work and maybe being able to use that inspiration in my own work. She is a photographer and graphic designer as well, so our paths aren’t far apart from each other, even though she’s moved to Spain in the meantime.

Roosh is a designer I once came across while going through Instagram. Their ability to work with minimal amount of colors, and still being able to make it look bright, is amazing. I personally also like the 70’s/80’s style they work with. The balance between typography and visuals is top notch.

Photography

Mike Will is a photographer based in London who is focused on street photography. During my time in San Francisco, I learned to have a soft spot for this type of photography as well. This started because of how he seems to capture the colorful streets, movements of traffic and the reflections of the people with such an ease and so incredibly well. I tried to make my own versions of what he was posting in San Francisco and that’s when and how it all started out for me.

When I started my photography journey, I always gravitated towards architecture. Architecture has always been on my mind while walking on the street and always on my camera while making photographs. I loved the simplicity, and yet the complicity, of the buildings and how the reflections of the windows made an art piece. When Sophie’s instagram profile popped up, it all made sense: her way of capturing architecture and its synchrony, made me want to look for this on my own as well.

Journalism

For someone who loves global matters and exposing those, I can not not love Amnesty International and all they do. They expose global/national matters, make people want to do something about it and doing this in such creative ways. It’s always been a dream to one day work for Amnesty. Until then, I continue to be inspired and get inspired by them in my own projects.

Through soul and body: I’m a feminist. And to not be confused: that isn’t about reducing men’s rights. It’s about equalling everyone’s rights with those that men already have. It’s about stopping discrimination against gender (race, skin color, etc.) and treating everyone equally. Feminist is about the same things. They want the same and report everything regarding this. I once was looking to move abroad to England, with looking at a job at Feminist. Things didn’t go this way, but I certainly wouldn’t mind if they ever do.
